Fun on Children’s Day

koinobori

Typically on Children’s day (Kodomo No Hi) we display carp fish banners called koinobori and we sing a song for this fish family. Here is the song and its translation:

屋根より高い鯉幟
大きな真鯉はお父さん
小さな緋鯉は子供たち
面白そうに泳いでる

Over the rooftops swim carp fish in the wind.
The large black fish is the father.
The small gold fish are his children.
They’re having fun swimming.
