June has arrived. The air is warming up in front of our eyes. You can definitely feel summer is on its way. Some of you are already mapping your entire summer vacation now that the final semester has ended. Others might be picking out the perfect bride’s dress for a beautiful June wedding. Yes, there is a lot happening in June. But let’s not forget Father’s Day.

When it comes to what to do or what to get for my father, I used to be at a complete loss. I know that I was not alone in this boat. Does he need another tie for work? Would he appreciate a nice set of pens? What kind of book would he like to read nowadays? These endless questions used to circle around in my head. But then, I found a simple solution: Ask him what he wants!

Luckily, my dad picked up a unique hobby several years ago. “Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce Magician Yasu!” Yes, my dad wanted to become an amateur magician. He doesn’t do any theatrical tricks that you might see in Las Vegas. What he does is close up tricks. Ever since he got into this hobby, his pockets have remained full of magic tricks even when he is at work. He would show his tricks at every possible occasion; at work, at bars, family get-togethers, parties, and even at weddings.

Now with this new passion of his, all I have to do is to ask what kind of things he needs for his magic. He would tell me some silly answers like Bicycle Planning Cards, plastic balls, colorful stickers, etc. It’s fun to know what he is up to, what special talents he is acquiring, and what kind of tricks he is working on. He seems to enjoy that I show an interest in his hobby as well.

To me, fathers are simple creatures. Many of them have passionate hobbies like fishing, grilling, writing, running, or even magic tricks. All we have to do is ask what they want. Unlike many women, they know exactly what they want.
